Abridged edition of the first English translation of Kotzebue's expedition into the Pacific Ocean as sponsored by Count Romanzof. "One of the great early nineteenth-century voyages of discovery," (Graff) the Kotzebue expedition circumnavigated Cape Horn, and from there explored Chile and the Marshall Islands before reaching Hawaii and the west coast of North America. The present edition includes additional plates with a particular focus on the Hawaiian Islands.
