London: Chapman and Hall, 1837. In two volumes. First edition, bound from the original parts. Tall and thick 8vo. Lavishly extra-illustrated with 48 original watercolor character drawings by Joseph Clayton Clarke ("Kyd"); two pencil and watercolor drawings by F.W. Pailthorpe; over 180 additional plates (comprising various states or proofs, hand-colored examples, images from other editions, etc.) by Thomas Onwhyn, Pailthorpe, George Cruikshank, Robert William Buss, et al.; four rare printed Addresses to Nos. II, III, X, and XV; printed pamphlet "On the Origin of Sam Weller", 1883; printed pamphlet "The Beauties of Pickwick", 1838; all 19 original green printed wrappers for the monthly parts; printed folding prospectus "New Illustrations to 'Pickwick'"; and more (many plates inlaid or mounted). Full crushed crimson morocco, stamped in gilt, short split in lower front board of second volume; top edges gilt; gilt dentelles; burgundy endpapers; by Zaehnsdorf; printed plate index bound in at front of first volume; remnants from removed slip on front blank of each volume.

A fantastic and lavishly extra-illustrated set of Dickens's Pickwick Papers, with 48 original watercolor drawings by Joseph Clayton Clarke ("Kyd") depicting the work's numerous characters, and over 180 additional plates and other Dickens-related material.
