A Scrimshaw-Mounted and Inlaid Mahogany Tea Caddy
Dated, "1847"

the lid with scrimshaw plaque incised with three oval reserves, the central reserve with sun, flanked by a lady identified as "Hannah" and a man identified as "Charles," bordered by inscription, "To Hannah/ Made Aboard Ye Whaler Henry/ Ano Do 1847/ 2 Years at South Pacific Isles," the sides with brass pull rings, the interior fitted with two lidded boxes flanking a central glass receptacle, with red-painted accession number, "72.15."

Height 6 1/2 x width 11 1/2 x depth 6 1/4 inches.
