The Robert Hoe Copy
London: Printed by William Stevens, 1843. First and limited edition, one of only 100 large paper copies printed for subscribers. Tall 8vo. Illustrated with mezzotint frontispiece by H.E. Dawe after J.P. Knight, and printed sheet music throughout. Publisher's green cloth-covered boards, decorated in blind, lettered in gilt, rebacked with portions of original spine laid down, boards rubbed and soiled, extremities rubbed; yellow endpapers; gilt morocco armorial book-plate of Robert Hoe on front paste-down; front and rear hinges reinforced; Hoe's son, Arthur Hoe's book-plate on front free endpaper; offsetting on title-page; text partially unopened.
From the library of Robert Hoe III (1839-1909), printing press manufacturer, co-founder and first president of the Grolier Club, and co-founder of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
