The present address was delivered on 6 July 1802 to celebrate the twenty-six anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Benjamin Silliman was one of the first American professors of science, and in 1804 became the first to deliver a science lecture at Yale University. In 1818 he founded the American Journal of Science, which is the longest continuously-running scientific publication in the United States.
Scarce. We trace only one other copy sold at auction in the last one hundred years.
