Washington, D.C., April 11, 1877. Single oblong sheet, approximately 13 3/4 x 16 1/2 in. (349 x 419 mm) (sight). Partially-printed commission, signed by Rutherford B. Hayes, appointing Bradford T. Simmons Postmaster at Johnstown, New York; counter-signed by Postmaster General David M. Key. Gilt seal intact in bottom left. Creasing from old folds, short closed tear at bottom central fold; dampstaining in bottom right corner. Unexamined out of frame, 15 3/4 x 18 5/8 in. (400 x 473 mm).
