London: J. Davis, 1789-1791. 3 parts in 1, folio (375 x 229 mm). 75 engraved plates (spotting throughout, offsetting, select plates washed.) 20th century full cloth (rubbing, soiling).

Sir James Edward Smith began work on Plantarum Icones Hactenus Ineditae shortly after returning from a grand tour of Europe in which he visited numerous botanists and scientists; while doing so he founded the Linnean Society, which today is the oldest biological society still in operation.
