Gotha: Justus Perthes, 1887-1892. 7 parts in one, small folio. 75 lithographed double-page maps, all in color. Contemporary diced calf, gilt-lettered boards, spine in 5 compartments with 4 raised bands, gilt-lettering in 2, upper compartment repaired, old sticker residue near foot, hinges starting; ownership signature.
Berghaus was a German cartographer and geographer who created the groundbreaking "Physikalischer Atlas" (Physical Atlas), first published between 1838 and 1848. This work is considered the first comprehensive thematic atlas of the world.
