Lot Description
[Mystery, Science Fiction & Fantasy] Smith, E.E. Spacehounds of IPC: A Tale of the Interplanetary Corporation
Reading, PA: Fantasy Press, 1947. First edition, presentation copy, with lengthy inscription by Smith to Charles Lanyon. 8vo. Original blue cloth, rubbing; publisher's dust jacket, rubbing, minor losses at corners and edges with accompanying creases, sunning to spine, tape repair at spine tail.
Spacehounds of IPC was the first book published by the Fantasy Press, later notable for publishing works by Robert A. Heinlein, A.E. van Vogt, John W. Campbell, Jr., and Murray Leinster. The story was originally published in the August-October 1931 issues of Amazing Stories; it is further notable for being the first to use the term "tractor beam," now ubiquitous in the science fiction genre.
