Nashville: Fugitive Publishing Co., 1922. First edition. 8vo. Signed by Warren. Original printed wraps, very mild toning.
First edition of the first issue of the Fugitive Poets Literary Magazine signed by Robert Penn Warren.
The Fugitive was a literary magazine published by a group of poets and literary scholars at Vanderbilt University who dubbed themselves the Fugitive Poets. This group included Robert Penn Warren, Allen Tate (both of whom would later become Poets Laureate of the United States), Donald Davidson, and John Crowe Ransom. They are considered to have kicked off a major new period in Southern literature. The Fugitive is now considered to be one of the most important literary magazines of the early twentieth century.
