Lot Description
[Literature] Faulkner, William. Absalom, Absalom!
New York: Random House, 1936. First trade edition. 8vo. Folding map at end printed in red and black. Original black cloth stamped in red and gold, top edge stained red, rear hinge cracked; dust jacket spine a touch sunned, minor losses at spine ends with accompanying creases. Petersen A18.2b.
The novel details the rise and fall of Thomas Sutpen, and the story is told almost entirely in flashbacks narrated by Quentin Compson (his Harvard roommate). Its groundbreaking technique, along with that of The Sound and the Fury, contributed to his being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
