[Literature] Dickens, Charles. The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club
London: Chapman and Hall, 1887. Two volumes extended to four. Extra-illustrated, with hundreds of additional illustrations, in color and in black and white, most window-mounted, by artists who illustrated various editions of the Pickwick Papers, including: Robert Seymour, Sam Weller, Thomas Onwhyn, F.W. Pailthorpe, H.K. Browne ("Phiz"), John Gilbert, Sibson, Buss, and Dalziel. Frontispiece of Volume I, Part I, with an original color sketch by Pailthorpe. Various title-pages from each edition of illustrations bound at front of Volume I. Full green levant, stamped in gilt with Dickens motifs, characters, and facsimile signatures, joints on all volumes worn, spines faded; top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed; dark brown endpapers, by Riviere and Son; previous bookseller's description laid-in.
A unique, profusely illustrated set of one of Dickens's most famous works, in a charming Riviere binding.
