Amsterdam: Jan ten Hoorn, 1699. Four parts in one volume. First edition. 4to. (xviii), 192; (4), 128; (4), 159; (1), (4), 198 pp. Illustrated with an engraved title-page and 11 engraved plates. Full brown sheepskin, decorated in gilt, boards and extremities worn and scuffed, joints worn, loss in upper spine; top edge stained black, other edges marbled; armorial book-plate of John Douglas Lindsay on front paste-down, old ownership signature above same; loss in bottom L4, affecting text; scattered spotting to text; intermittent dampstaining in lower gutter.
Scarce first edition of this history of the rise and fall of various princesses, women martyrs of the church, etc., featuring 11 engraved plates depicting their often violent demise.
