Lot Description

[Americana] Adams, Henry. Mont St. Michel and Chartres


[Boston]: Printed at the Riverside Press for the Massachusetts Historical Society, 1919. First edition, presentation copy inscribed by Adams executor Worthington C. Ford. 4to. Original blue cloth gilt, top edge gilt, all others uncut, very light sunning to spine; book-plate of Eugene Sullivan, presentation inscription by Bohemian artist Hermann Hanatschek (1873-1963)

Bound with: an autograph note, unsignedby Adams, on St. George's Brown's Hotel [London] stationery, [17 October 1898]. In full: "All clear at the house except Smith and those who are to report to me here tomorrow. Boulogne telegram met me on arriving here. I am glad to say it is raining now. I just bagged a lovely morning, and you a fine crossing. The fates were kind to the last. Naturally I can't get off tomorrow, as some last changes remain to be paid to Rose. London is not gay."
