Lot Description

[LEYDENFROST, Alexander (1888-1961)]. A large group of Esquire magazines featuring the work of Alexander Leydenfrost. Ca. 1940s.

Approximately 37 issues of Esquire magazine which feature the artwork of Alexander Leydenfrost dating from the period November 1942-July 1945 (rubbing, some minor losses along extremities of select issues).

Alexander Leydenfrost was a Hungarian-American industrial designer and illustrator whose artwork during the Second World War brought the immediacy and drama of the conflict into the homes of millions of Americans. Throughout the war he produced dozens of images of American military prowess for Esquire magazine, casting the war both as a battle between good and evil and between the technological might of the Allied and Axis powers.
