Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA]. 2 cabinet cards ft. aftermath of the Miles City, MT, flood by L.A. Huffman.

2 cabinet cards, both taken from a similar vantage point on 4th Street, looking east, showing the height of the water during the infamous flood. In both images, pedestrians are shown standing on the porches of business establishments lining the street and on ice chunks in the middle of the street. Visible signage includes that of a post office, bakery, and even a bowling alley. One image bears Huffman's Miles City imprint on mount recto. Both images dated in an unknown hand, "Feb 25 - 1884," although research indicates that they were captured in 1881.

The Miles City flood was caused by an ice jam on the Tongue River, immediately west of town.

Property of Kris and Alicia Huffman, SuddElle Farms at Clover Hill, Lenoir, North Carolina

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
