Lot Description
[MORMONS]. National Intelligencer. Coverage of the death of Mormon leader Joseph Smith.
National Intelligencer. Vol. XLV, No. 6483. Washington, DC: Gales & Seaton, 9 July 1844.
4pp., folio, 18 1/4 x 23 in. Disbound (chipping, creasing, light staining to margins, occasional light spotting). Original owner identified in the upper margin in brown iron gall ink.
The newspaper features the prominent, front page headline, “Death of the Mormon Prophet," followed by a detailed account of the murder of Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon religion, and his brother Hyrum Smith. The brothers were murdered by an anti-Mormon mob in Carthage, IL, on 27 June 1844. A highly desirable newspaper, perfect for display.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
