8 photographs of African American subjects, comprised of the following: 3 cabinet cards, including 2 portraits of young Black women and a portrait of a young mother and her child. Photographers include Graeme, Washington, DC (toning to print and mount), Bellis, Atlantic City, NJ, and W.C. Bell, Frederick, MD. -- CDV of a young African American woman wearing a patterned dress and fancy hat, credited to W.O. Towns, Winchester, VA (toning, spotting and some soiling to print and mount). -- 3 tintypes, each approx. 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 in., showing African American or mixed-race men and women. The studio portraits of the two men appear to have been taken by the same photographer based on the same prop and painted backdrop used in the portrait (slight crease to plate showing portrait of man seated). The third portrait shows a young woman standing before a painted backdrop decorated with a seascape (slight horizontal crease through center of plate). -- Mounted photograph of a Black man holding pails of water, standing amidst a group of white men.

Together, 8 photographs of African American subjects.
