[EARLY PHOTO] CDVs of one of Colgate's first international students Moung Kyaw of Burma and his wife
2 CDVs, each with verso imprint of Bogardus, New York, including: A studio portrait of Burmese native Moung Kyaw, who is regarded as one of the first international students to attend Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Verso includes Moung Kyaw's name in English and Burmese script. -- CDV, studio portrait of Moung Kyaw's wife, Mah Shway Mai, her name in English and Burmese script on verso.
Moung Kyaw (1843-1883) emigrated from Burma (now Myanmar) at age 16 and graduated with the Class of 1868. He married Mah Shway Mai, a Burmese woman, in Chicago in 1869, then returned to his native country to serve as a Christian missionary on the island of Belloo Kyan.
