[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 14 cased images of varying subjects, incl. daguerreotypes of confident gents.
Sixth plate daguerreotype of a young girl standing with her arm through the back of a chair, the chair having a glass bowl filled with some undiscernible object on it. (Some clouding and fuzziness, possibly to glass but difficult to tell, spotting to mat, no preserver present.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case with velvet pad stamped for VAN LOAN's gallery, Philadelphia (split at spine, loss to upper edge of front cover). -- Sixth plate daguerreotype of a younger bearded man wearing a tall top hat tilted on his head, having a cigar hanging out of his mouth, and posing with his hands holding onto his lapels. (Tarnishing, some clouding, spotting, and dust specs, spotting to mat.) Housed in a leatherette case (general wear). -- Sixth plate ambrotype of a bearded gentleman with a comb over holding a baby wrapped in a blanket and wearing a hat. (Re-blacked and resealed 1997.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (general wear). -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a teenaged young man with long hair, posed resting his elbow on a book on the table next to him. (Significant tarnishing to edges, spotting and specs throughout, no preserver present.) Housed in a mother-of-pearl case (general wear). -- And 10 others, including 3 quarter plate ambrotypes, 3 sixth plate daguerreotypes, one sixth plate hand-colored tintype, one ninth plate daguerreotype, one daguerreotype housed in a piece of pinback jewelry, and one sixteenth plate daguerreotype. Conditions and housings vary. -- Together, 14 images.
