Lot Description
A Group of Five Assorted Hand-Painted or Worked Pictures
Various Makers, 19th Century
comprising a theorem on velvet depicting a basket with flowers, circa 1825, in a period faux-grained "Hitchcock" type frame; a small mourning picture depicting a mourning lady beside a weeping willow and tombstone inscribed, "To the Memory of a Life Lived/ T. Hills/ he died Oct. 9th 1833/ in the fourth year of his age," the lower register inscribed, "So fades the lovely, blooming flow'r, frail, smiling solace of an hour," watercolor and ink on paper, framed; a hand-drawn bookplate or ledger sheet depicting a cornucopia with flowers and initialed, "S.T.," probably late 18th / early 19th century, watercolor and ink and paper, mounted and framed; a hand-decorated and embossed friendship token, with hand-painted rose and flowers and applied label inscribed, "Friendship's Offering," late 19th century, framed; and an embroidered needlework picture of a train, late 19th century, mounted and framed.
