A South Italian Giltwood Canapé with Clarence House and Scalamandré Silk Upholstery
Naples/Sicily, Circa 1840
The gilded beechwood frame carved in a rope-form, with twisting knots and tassels and curved front legs. The seat, arms and swag skirt upholstered in Clarence House French silk fabric printed with bows, flowers and peacock feathers; the back in a Scalamandré plaid silk; accented with silk passementerie.
