A Mourning Picture For Captain Frederick Carpenter (1766-1821)
Circa 1821
watercolor and ink on paper, the register reads, "Affectionately inscribed to the memory of Capt. Fredrick Carpenter-- who died Feb. 26, 1821, Aged 55 Years. Few friends have we on earth, and when they part, the nerve unwinds whose tension tears the heart."
