[CHILDREN'S BOOKS]. AESOP. Fabulae Aesopi Graece & Latine, nunc denuo selectae... Daniel Heinsius, editor. Amsterdam: Johannes Janssonius, 1649.
12mo. (Preliminaries offset, scattered foxing.) Text in Latin and Greek. Illustrated throughout with black and white woodcuts. Contemporary brown calf, stamped in gilt, red morocco spine label, all edges stained red (manuscript description of contents on front paste-down, joints and extremities worn). Provenance: blindstamp of Earl of Macclesfield on title-page; The Library of the Earls of Macclesfield, Sotheby's London, 2 October 2008, lot 4308.
[Bound with:] 2 other works in German and Latin, printed in Riga by Samuel Lorentz Froelich, ca 1722.
Rare bilingual and illustrated edition of Aesop's Fables, first published in 1626 for use in Dutch schools. The other bound works are collections of regulations drawn up by the Senate of Riga governing school-teaching.
