Lot Description
NIN, Anais (1903-1977). [The Diary of Anais Nin]. Volumes I-VI. New York and London: The Swallow Press and Harcourt, Brace, and World/Jovanovich, 1966-1976.
6 volumes, 8vo. Original gray cloth; publisher's dust jackets (rubbing, sunning to spines, minor tape repair to spine head of Volume Three). Provenance: David Curry (gift inscription).
FIRST EDITIONS. INSCRIBED BY ANAIS NIN TO DAVID CURRY IN FIRST VOLUME, "More to come..." According to a note included with work the first volume of Diary was signed by Nin during a visit by the author to Gotham Book Mart while in the queue to be delivered. Efforts to publish The Diary of Anais Nin began as early as the 1930s, with its size being the single greatest hurdle (15,000 typewritten pages in 150 volumes). The publication of its first volume in 1966 coincided perfectly with the sexual revolution of the 1960s, making Nin a feminist icon in the process.
