8vo. Original variant red cloth lettered in black; publisher's unrestored dust jacket (rubbing, very small loss to spine head).
FIRST EDITION, IN FIRST ISSUE DUST JACKET with "7/6 net" price on spine and Helen Prothero Lewis advertisement on rear flap. Fergus Hume was an English novelist whose first work, The Mystery of the Hansom Cab, was acknowledged by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as being the primary inspiration for A Study in Scarlet, the first work to feature Sherlock Holmes.
