8vo. Original gilt-lettered and stamped red cloth, top edge gilt (slight lean to front joint, light soiling to extremities, small spot on upper cover); folding chemise and morocco-backed slipcase. Provenance: Col. N.N. Wallack (recipient of author's inscription and letter).

FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY BACHELLER: "Eben has travelled far since this book was printed. His shoes are now badly worn but he keeps going—a thousand a year even now." FIRST ISSUE, with the uncorrected line "go to fur" on p.400.

[With:] ALS ("Irving Bacheller") to Wallack, 5 August 1936, 1p., old folds, original envelope. In full: "I have inscribed the book and am returning it today. I congratulate you on having so perfect a copy of the first edition. You are good enough to suggest sending a bottle. I wouldn't ask you to do that but I will drink to your health this very evening."

[With:] ALS ("Irving Bacheller") to Mr. Van Noppen, 17 December 1909, 2pp., old folds. Bacheller responds to an invitation by Van Noppen in regards to a reading of his play.
