Lot Description
[HEMINGWAY, Ernest (1899-1961)]. BLUNT, Wilfrid Scawen (1901-1987). My Diaries: Being a Personal Narrative of Events 1888-1914. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1923.
2 volumes, 8vo. Original dark blue cloth, printed paper spine labels (sunning to spine). Provenance: Bennett Schneider Book Seller, Kansas City (ticket at rear, bookmark laid in); Ruth White Lowry (1884-1974), Hemingway's cousin and Kansas City native (ownership signature, recipient of Hemingway's inscriptions).
Third edition. BOTH VOLUMES INSCRIBED BY HEMINGWAY TO HIS COUSIN, RUTH LOWRY.
Volume 1: "These good solid books are to throw after the American poetry book at the head of [strikeout] anyone who criticizes the management. Ernest."
Volume 2: "Dear Ruth - This is the second solid volume to throw after the first. Ernest."
Hemingway was known to have frequented Bennett Schneider's bookshop in Kansas City, where he likely acquired this book for his cousin, with whom he was staying at the time.
