4to (267 x 216 mm). Engraved folding map frontispiece. (Slight offsetting to title-page.) Contemporary diced calf gilt, marbled edges (rebacked preserving original spine). Provenance: Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850), former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (armorial bookplate); Edward Faridany (book label).
ROBERT PEEL'S COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of Marsden's celebrated translation of Marco Polo's travels across Asia, originally published in German in 1477. This edition was preceded in English only by John Frampton's rare translation of 1579.
