Lot Description

[NATIVE AMERICANS]. 3 CDVs of Native American subjects, highlighted by view of Kiowa Indians.

3 CDVs on cardstock mounts. Subjects include:

CDV, period copy image of four Kiowa Indians. Denver, CO: Goehner & Co. Verso with modern notation suggesting that the subject seated at left is White Bear, or Satanta (ca 1820-1878), a notorious warrior from Kiowa county who participated in many raids against the Cheyenne and Ute tribes and pillaged white settlements in the American Southwest. This identification cannot be confirmed. -- CDV, intimate portrait of a young Native American man. Salt Lake City, UT: C.W. Carter's Photograph Gallery and View Emporium. -- CDV, standing portrait of a young man and woman who appear to be white, dressed in Native American regalia, possibly costumes. Lynn, MA: Bowers, ca mid-1860s. 3-cent US Internal Revenue stamp on verso.

Together, 3 CDVs.
