[FLAGS]. 39-star American flag. Ca 1889-1890.
17 3/8 x 24 1/2 in. printed cotton flag, 39 stars arranged in vertical rows 7/6/7/6/7/6. Mounted to 19 x 26 inch canvas.
The nation never officially had 39 states as The Dakota Territory was admitted to the Union as North and South Dakota on the same day, 2 November 1889.
