Lot Description
[FLAGS]. 38-star American flag. Ca 1876-1890.
25 x 32 1/2 in. flag printed on cotton, 38 stars configured in horizontal rows 6/7/6/6/7/6. Mounted on 27 1/2 x 35 in. board.
The 38-star flag was introduced on 1 August 1876 when Colorado became the 38th state, just 28 days after the official centennial celebration. The flag remained at 38 stars until the addition of five states in 1889.
