Lot Description

Two Swords: Unmarked Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber & Continental Briquet

1) Continental Briquet with a 23" curved single edged semi-hatchet tip blade. Blade 1.375" wide at ricasso. Overall length 28.5". 5.5" cast brass hilt with knuckle bow and 27 grasping grooves cast into the grip. Obverse ricasso stamped with a maker's mark that is not fully legible and appears to read GRADIER. Rack number 1057 stamped on obverse of guard. Touchmarks on reverse of guard and blade. No scabbard present.
2) Unmarked US Model 1860 Light Cavalry style saber with a 34.675" curved single-edged blade and a 27" stopped median fuller. Blade 1" wide at ricasso. 40.75" in overall length. 6" hilt with cast brass guard that has two branches, a knuckle bow and a Phrygian helmet pommel cap. Wood grip covered in leather with 14 wraps of twisted wire. The only marking noted is the number 69 stamped at the rear of the knuckle bow on the reverse. Includes a nickel plated steel scabbard with two suspension rings.
