Lot Description

Martially Marked Starr Model 1858 Army Revolver
American Civil War

.44 Cal. 6" barrel length. SN: 8818. Blued finish worn to a mottled gray to brown patina overall mounting one piece walnut grips and standard hammer rear notch and dovetailed front blade sights. DAO percussion revolver with loading lever below the barrel. Left frame is marked STARR. ARMS. CO. NEW. YORK, with the right struck STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15. 1858. Martial marks include W initial to rear gripstrap, left and right barrel, left recoil shield, and on the triggerguard. T initial to the forward frame. Grips have been sanded with the cartouche on left side worn down to illegibility and a faint BH cartouche of inspector Benjamin Hannis on the right. A brass plate cut in diamond shape is tacked into the left side of the grips. Serial numbers match on forward frame below barrel, rear frame below hammer, and on the interior hammer. {ANTIQUE}
