Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle musket with three solid, rounded, spring-retained barrel bands, 1864 pattern two leaf rear sight, Barleycorn combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels and a full-length straight shank tulip head ramrod. Lock marked with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} and U.S./SPRINGFIELD forward of the hammer and dated 1864 at the tail. Flat bolster face with {Spread-Winged Eagle} and top of breech with matching 1864 date. Left angled breech flat with usual V/P/{Eagle Head} proof marks. Two clear script cartouches are present on the counterpane, the WPT of William P Taylor and the ESA of Springfield Master Armorer Erskine S Allin. The Model 1864 was the last of the US arsenal produced muzzleloading .58 caliber percussion rifle muskets to be manufactured. {ANTIQUE}
