Lot Description

Robbins & Lawrence Contract US Model 1841 "Mississippi" Rifle
American Civil War

.54 caliber. 33" round barrel secured by two flat brass spring-retained clamping bands. NSN. Browned barrel, color casehardened lock, brass furniture, smooth walnut stock. Muzzleloading percussion rifle with large brass patchbox, fixed notch rear sight, brass front sight blade, sling swivels and brass tipped trumpet head ramrod. Lock marked ROBBINS/&/LAWRENCE/US in four horizontal lines under the bolster and in two vertical lines at the tail WINDSOR, VT/1850. Breech plug tang dated 1850 as well with the upper left quadrant of the breech stamped with weak U.S./L.B.C./P inspections. The counterpane of the stock is stamped with two partially legible script cartouches, the first an illegible sub-inspector mark and the rear a weak WAT of Ordnance Officer William Anderson Thornton. {ANTIQUE}
