Lot Description
**First Year of Production Springfield Model 1922 .22 Caliber Rifle
.22 LR. 24.5" barrel length. SN: 404. Blued metal finish with polished bolt set in walnut semi-pistol grip stock with half length handguard retained by a single barrel band. Bolt action detachable box magazine fed rifle mounting a Lyman rear aperture and pinned front blade sights. Receiver mark reads U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL OF 1922/CAL. .22. Barrel date mark behind front sight reads S A/{Ordnance Bomb}/6-22, corresponding to very early Model 1922 production, and indicating this to be the original barrel. Bolt features dual firing pins correct for the early 1922 rifles. Bolt handle struck with W and L initials and the number 3. Stock has been sanded and shows no extant markings. Barrel band displays standard U initial and mounts the forward sling loop. Butt mounts the rear sling swivel to the toe and a checkered buttplate. Front sight has been cut inward to produce a Patridge style front blade. Magazine is unmarked, but protrudes from the floorplate correctly. {C&R}
