Lot Description
Jimmy Lile Hollow Handle Combat Knife No Dot with Holster
5.75" blade length. 13.25" overall with sheath and hilt. Straight single edged Bowie knife with hollow hilt, brass guard and pommel cap, and a cord wrapped handle. Item shows a matte bead blasted finish to all metal parts with lanyard loops to both quillons and on the pommel cap. Left ricasso is stamped simply LILE with no dot, indicating it was made during the working career of Jimmy Lile. Leather sheath is unmarked with a belt loop and snap fastener.
A full time knifemaker from 1971, James "Jimmy" Lile continued to produce handmade knives until his death in 1991. The company now bearing his name continues to offer a wide variety of knives following Lile's original patterns. The best known of these being the enormous clip-point serrated bowie knives that Lile produced for the movie "Rambo: First Blood", starring Sylvester Stallone. This lot represents a more sober take on the hollow handle concept and offers a thoroughly practical survival knife in that style.
