Lot Description

Two Decorative US Model 1840 Type Light Artillery Sabers
American Civil War

1) Decorative M1840 Light Artillery Saber with Millard blade. 34.125" curved single edged blade with 26" stopped median fuller. Blade 1.1" wide at ricasso. Overall length 39.25". 5.25" cast brass hilt with guard and knuckle bow, grip painted to resemble the original leather covered wood with wire wrap. Weak Millard markings and inspection marks on blade. Probably assembled by Bannerman or a similar surplus dealer for decoration. Includes a reproduction scabbard.
2) Composite M1840 Type Saber with Clauberg M1840 cavalry saber blade. 35.5" curved single edged blade with 26" stopped median fuller. Blade 1.25" wide at ricasso. 41" in overall length. 5.25" cast brass hilt with guard and knuckle bow, grip painted to resemble the original leather covered wood with wire wrap. Weak Cluaberg marking on blade. Probably assembled by Bannerman or a similar surplus dealer for decoration. No scabbard present.
