Lot Description

J. Cooper Marked New England Militia Fowler

.69 caliber. 40" pinned round barrel with baluster turned rings at the breech. NSN. Bright finish, brass furniture, walnut stock with checkered wrist. Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading flintlock militia fowler with socket bayonet lug located on top of the barrel, 1" from the muzzle, no sights, no sling swivels and with a period button head iron ramrod in the channel under the barrel. Lightly engraved commercial flint lock is marked J COOPER and appears to remain in original flint, although the lock could not be removed for inspection due the inability to remove the front lock screw. Lock is nominally 4.5" in length with an externally bridled rounded and fenced waterproof pan, roller frizzen and flat swan neck cock. Endoscopic examination reveals that the barrel remains in original flint. The entry pipe and one of the ramrod thimbles are missing, as is the nose cap of the stock.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
