W & C Scott & Son Premier Extra Special 12 Gauge Shotgun in Travel Case

12 Gauge. 30" barrel length. SN: 41411. (Mfg. Ca 1887) 2.625" chamber lengths. Modified Chokes. Browned Damascus steel barrels and casehardened frame with blued small parts mounting an English walnut round knob semi-pistol grip stock and splinter forend. Double barrel side by side sidelock ejector shotgun featuring German Silver front bead sight on a matted barrel rib. The wrist and forend display bordered multipoint checkering, and the stock mounts a horn buttplate. The manufacturer's markings are engraved on the left frame surrounding the hingepin, and read W&C SCOTT & SON/PATENT-BLOCK-SAFETY/Hammerless. Barrel markings feature the maker mark W&C SCOTT & SON The Premier Extra Special PATENT TRIPLEX LEVER GRIP to the right barrel and the address 10 GT CASTLE STREET REGENT CIRCUS LONDON. Shotgun features dual crystal indicators on the sideplates surrounded by the engraved marking Patent Crystal Indicator. Tang safety features a bold relief engraved SAFE marking and is followed on the tang by an escutcheon with the initials SIF. Watertables are engraved and include U.S.A. PAT/DEC.3-78 followed by W&C S&S/2592 further followed by U.S.A. PAT/MAY.6-79 on the left side with the right engraved The Premier Gun. Standing breech displays the patent marking U.S.A. SEP. 19.82/PAT GAS CHECK/Nr 2900. 19th Century London firing proofs visible on the barrel flats and watertables. The shotgun is richly engraved with oak leaves and acorns over the frame and small parts transitioning into ferns and English spiral scroll engraving over the barrel fences. The oak leaf engraving on the barrels and dollshead flows cleanly into the frame. Item comes with a restored and fitted vintage leather bound wood case with canvas cover containing an assortment of tools. Case lid mounts an engraved plaque corresponding to the model inside, likely installed during restoration. Tools include: JAMES DIXON & SONS marked oiler, two nickel plated snap caps, two wooden handled screwdrivers, a soft bristle brush, chamber brush, wood cleaning rod, 12 gauge jag, bore brush, and a bore mop. Also included are the consignor's notes about this shotgun's history presented in a laminated letter. Screws are engraved but not timed. An excellent example of a rare Best quality English shotgun. 14" length of pull. 1.875" drop to comb. 3.25" drop to heel. 7.1 lbs weight. {ANTIQUE}
