Lock marked in two horizontal lines under the bolster E. WHITNEY/US and in two vertical lines at the tail of the lock N. HAVEN/1850. The breech plug tang marked with a matching 1850 date. The upper left quadrant of the breech is marked US/SM/VP and the left flat of the barrel is marked STEEL. Stock counterpane opposite the lock is marked with two clear script cartouches, the first the SK of arsenal sub-inspector Samuel Knous and the second the WAT of Ordnance Officers William Anderson Thornton.
