Lock marked with a {Spread-Winged Eagle}/US and REMINGTON'S/ILION, N.Y. forward of the hammer and dated 1865 at the tail. Breech with matching 1865 date. left angled breech flat with standard V/P/{Eagle Head} proofs. Counterpane with two partially legible cartouches, the script TWR of Thomas W Russell and the script OWA of Orville W Ainsworth. The initials GHT are carved in the bottom of the stock, forward of the triggerguard. Due to the political power of New York's senators, Remington was one of the few arms contractors who were allowed to deliver all of their Civil War contract arms, even after the war had concluded.
