US Model 1863/64 Transitional Rifle Musket
American Civil War

.58 caliber. 40" barrel. NSN. Bright finish, color casehardened lock, iron furniture, full length walnut musket stock. Single shot percussion ignition muzzleloading military rifle musket with solid, rounded M1864 pattern barrel bands with band springs, M1861 pattern leaf rear sight with aperture hole drilled in the 300-yard leaf for 200 yards, Barleycorn front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels on the triggerguard and middle barrel band and a straight shank tulip head ramrod. Standard Springfield lock markings, dated 1863 at the tail. Breech with standard proof and inspection marks and dated 1863 as well. Two script crouches are present on the counterpane including the an illegible arsenal sub-inspector's cartouche and the ESA of Master Armorer Erskine S Allin. {ANTIQUE}
