US Model 1861 Contract Rifle Musket by Trenton (Addison Burt)
American Civil War

.58 caliber. 40" barrel secured by three flat, spring-retained barrel bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle musket with M1861 three-leaf rear sight, Barleycorn combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivel and a tulip head, swelled shank ramrod. Lock marked with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} and U.S./TRENTON forward of the hammer and dated 1863 at the tail. Breech with matching 1863 date and standard V/P/{Eagle Head} proof marks. Counterpane stamped in small letters A.M. BURT and with two script cartouches, the TAB of Theodore A. Belknap and the AHT of Albert H Thompson, both arsenal sub-inspectors of contract arms. {ANTIQUE}
