Lot Description

Rare Warner 1st Model Carbine
American Civil War

.50RF. 20" barrel. SN: 2039. Blued finish, brass receiver, triggerguard and buttplate, walnut stock and forend secured to the barrel by a single spring retained solid barrel band and a screw. Single shot breechloading rimfire carbine with hinged breechblock, correct pattern L-shaped leaf rear sight with two apertures in the long leaf, original front sight, saddle ring on left of frame. Left side of receiver marked in three-lines: JAMES WARNER SPRINGFIELD, MASS./WARNER'S/PATENT, with the upper line very weak and difficult to read. Serial number on buttplate and under barrel. Martially sub-inspected throughout with a capital "L," on buttplate tang, bottom of receiver and barrel. Left of barrel also stamped with a C.S.L. inspection. Matching assembly number 22 inside breech and breech block. Only 1,501 were produced circa 1864. This is a very scarce secondary US martial carbine from the Civil War period in lovely and untouched condition. {ANTIQUE}
