**Highly Embellished Schuetzen Rifle by Jos. Ofenstein of Aschaffenburg

Nominally 8mm bore (unknown chambering). 30" fluted octagonal barrel. NSN. Blued and color casehardened finish, Schuetzen style European carved hardwood butt with raised cheek rest and Swiss butt plate, carved hardwood semi-Schnabel forend. Single shot Peabody-Martini style dropping block action target rifle with fully adjustable peep rear sight, ramped front sight blade with protective ears, extended pistol-gripped action lever, double set triggers, matted top barrel flat and sling swivels. Right upper angled flat of barrel marked JOS. OFENSTEIN and left upper angled flat marked with the city name ASCHAFFENBURG. Face of muzzle marked JOHAN ZAPF. Receiver with deep relief engraving of hunters in the wood on the obverse and lovers in the wood on the reverse with flowing foliate border decorations. Raised carvings and checkering on the stock and forend. A really lovely Schuetzen rifle from the first quarter of the 20th century. {C&R}
