Joslyn Model 1864 Carbine
American Civil War
.52RF. 22" Barrel. SN: 11937. Blued barrel, color casehardened lock and iron furniture, walnut stock with single barrel band. Single shot breechloading metallic cartridge saddle ring carbine with M1861 pattern three-leaf rear sight and integral pinched front sight blade. Lock marked in three lines: JOSLYN FIRE ARMS Co/STONINGTON/CONN. Left side of breech with F.D.L. sub-inspector mark, a weak and illegible cartouche is visible above the saddle bar. Matching serial numbers on breech and breech block. Roughly 12,500 of these improved Joslyn Carbines were produced circa 1864-1865 with some 8,000 being acquired by the US Government for Civil War service. {ANTIQUE}
