About 3,000 of the New Model No. 2 Smoot revolvers were produced circa 1877-1885, in both .30RF short and .32RF short, with the belief that only about 600 were in the smaller .30RF chambering. Caliper measurements confirm this is a .30 caliber revolver with the bore measuring nominally .285" and the chamber mouths nominally .29" and with the rear of the chambers being nominally .295". A scarce and fairly early production Smoot variant, with the three digit serial number 258 stamped twice on the left side of the grip frame, under the grips. {ANTIQUE}
