Cut Down US Model 1864 Rifle Musket with Added Tack Decorations
Indian Wars
.58" caliber. 25.3" barrel length. SN: NSN. Deep brown patina overall with a cut down barrel retained by a single U marked barrel band and set in a walnut straight wrist stock with half length handguard. Single shot muzzle loading percussion rifle mounting a dovetailed brass front blade and a rear notch sight cut into the sight base. Stock is further decorated with triple brass tacks to each flank of the forend and butt. Receiver retains the 1864 date, but the arsenal mark over the lock has been obliterated. Upper left barrel flat retains visible V/P/{Eagle Head} marks. Lacks ramrod. {ANTIQUE}
